Pay with your phone in the Transit app.
Pay with your phone. Buy RTA tickets and passes in the free Transit app, then scan your phone at the reader at the front of the bus.
How to pay with the Transit app
- Download the Transit app from the App Store or Google Play and choose RTA of Central Maryland.
- Tap Buy Ticket, choose your ticket, enter your payment details and confirm.
- When you are ready to ride, activate the ticket and hold your phone to the contactless reader at the front of the bus until the light turns green.
- Find your tickets any time under My tickets, from the gear icon on the main screen.
Fare capping
Pay as you go in the app and RTA stops charging once you reach the price of a day or monthly pass — you never pay more than a pass would cost.
Transfers
A $2 one-way fare bought in the Transit app is valid for 90 minutes, with free transfers across the RTA system.
More in the app
The Transit app also shows real-time arrivals — a wave icon means the prediction comes from GPS on the bus — plus route maps, trip planning and service alerts. An exclamation mark beside a route number means it has an active alert.
